Why Has My 2 Year Old Son Stopped Eating His Favorite Vegetables And Fruit?
He was very sick last week with the stomach flu and ever since he got his appetite back he will not eat vegetables (he only eats green beans, peas and carrots and the frozen mixed vegetables, he has also stopped eating bananas which is the only fresh fruit he likes). Has anyone seen this with their child and did they eventually start eating their regular foods again?

if he had the stomach bug he may not have his appetite back yet all the way. I bet he will eventually, just give him some time.
Maybe you forcing it on him too much. When he ready to eat it again he’ll let you know.
Because he is 2 yrs old
I have a 21 month old and I will tell that it is perfectly normal for toddlers to go through phases of loving something one day and hating it the next. It is their way of “taste-testing”. I just have to keep trying diff things each day, and go back to what he liked one day but not the next all the time.
Maybe he thinks that his favorite vegetables & fruits are what caused his sickness, and he’s afraid that if he eats them again he will get sick.
You could just ask him why. :]
My son had a horrible appetite from the time he was two until recently. He’ll be 4 in september. He would only eat one meal a day if that. The doctor said it was completly normal and that it is just part of their growing stage. And I couldn’t even get him to look at a vegtable, I would resort to hiding vegatables in his food, like choppoing up mushrooms and sticking them in spagehtti sauce etc. But he’s fine now, he has a very good apetite and he eat vegatables finally. At this age children want to be independant and they start forming opinions. Don’t force feed them but always leave the option for fruit and vegetables open (by just leaving it on their plate). Also find books on characters they may like (my son loves dinosaurs) so I got how to dinosaurs eat their food, and i refer back to it everytime I atleast want him to try something. good luck
it’s his age. He’ll start eating those foods again. Just make sure you give him lots of options.
My son has gone through phases of picky eating. One was after a cold, another after meeting a new friend, the last one was after a trip to go see Grandma a state away. Unfortunetly, that’s what toddlers do. My daughter is about to turn two and she has started the same odd eating habits.
His taste buds may be changing. As people grow older, they change their eating habits frequently. For example, my neighbor (about 3) used to absolutely LOVE Cheerioes. He would eat Cheerios willy nilly, always bringing a little baggie of them with him everywhere. Then, out of the blue, he hated them. He wouldn’t eat them at all. Just try to give him a variety of fruits and veggies, and he’ll decide which ones he likes and which ones he doesn’t.
Don’t stress, it’s 2 things. One, he may not be fully recovered from his virus and two, he is showing his control in being able to make choices for himself.
My son turned 2 in Feb and his eating habits have become horrible since then. He used to eat anything. His favorites were chicken stir-fry, chicken fajitas and any type of fruit or veggie. Now, for breakfast all he wants is oatmeal, lunch is PB&J or grilled cheese and dinner is our biggest battle.
Your son will soon snap out of his eating strike, but until then just keep offering him a varitey of nutritious snacks like fruits, veggies, dairy and protein.
He’s two. That’s why. Two year olds do this sort of thing. He will sort it all out again soon.
he is probibly going threw phasea but if he dosent eat his faveret veges just say ok .and my sun did to start back its just a phase.
He probably will eventually start eating vegetables again. But he is also at the age where his tastes may change daily, so it may not be from the flu.
well kids his age will change quickly one day he might like this vegetabel then the next day he’d like a new one it is jsut the way of children
I have just been through this with my 2 & 4 year olds. Mine usually go off their favourite foods for about a week or week and a half when they have the flu/cold or just not feeling well. But eventually go back to eating them again. Just remember to keep offering him those foods so that he may eat them again. I know how you feel, it gets quite frustrating when you don’t know what to give them instead!
Your child will have many changes in food tastes, among other likes and dislikes. Count your blessings that he has been good to eat so far. Just constantly introduce new foods and old dislikes to him. Encourage him that he might be missing out if he doesn’t take one little taste. Then if he doesn’t like something don’t shove it down his throught (so to speak) But keep the choices along the same lines. Don’t offer any junk food at all if he quits trying foods or wont eat anything but junk.
Kids learn best from your actions, I remember ” Do as I say not as I do” But if you and others around him keep animated happy attitudes, they will rub off. Same with negative and hateful attitudes. And of course the positive ones are harder to teach while the negative ones only take one observance. AHHH
