good question.
i’m guessing because the big question everyone has for a veg. is “Why dont you eat meat?”
Everyone wants to know why you decided on that.

Vegetarians eat more than just vegetables, so it would be confusing to consider them vegetable-eaters, because it would imply we only eat vegetables. By saying we don’t eat meat (I prefer to say we don’t eat animals so that clears up the fish/poultry issue), it makes it more clear that we can eat everything except animal flesh/products.

Because being Vegetarian means you don’t eat meat, not only eat vegetables. Vegetarians eat other foods besides veggies. Vegans are the ones that mainly eat vegetables. They don’t believe in eating any animal products, including milk, eggs and cheese. They mainly eat veggies and grain foods.

    lol interesting question
i think its because being a vegetarian doesnt mean loving vegetables, it means hating meat.
im a vegetarian myself and i have been for the past 6 years, ever since was 7. i really dont like meat but im not a big fan of veggies either so in the end- i just eat everything else. chocolate, pasta, sandwiches, ice cream…thats pretty much what i survive on..haha
i know a lot of other vegetarians however who truly do eat their veggies…i think it just depends on the person though and their tastes in food…

Because most are passionate about not eating meat. They really dont care what else they eat, as long as they arent a part of the torture animals go through in the meat industry. It isnt about what your eating, its about what your not eating.
    Vegan

The only thing that makes meat taste good, is the vegan seasoning that you add. There is no way a steak would taste better without at least salt and pepper. So really, vegetables makes everything better.

    oh? that’s interesting.. NOT.
sorry, i eat veggies and fruits.. fresh… and try to keep away from processed CRAP!
how you perceive all of this… well, doesn’t keep me awake at night.

Stupid question – abstaining from flesh is what defines us as vegetarian, what is left over is derived almost exclusively from water and plants (including veg)

  8. Andy D - February 22nd, 2010

I assume because they also eat bread, milk, etc. The defining characteristic of vegetarianism is that you just don’t eat meat.

  9. Tetra - February 23rd, 2010

Because it’s more “not eating meat” than “just eating vegetables”.

  10. mikig8 - February 23rd, 2010

When vegetarians eat out they ask if products have meat or not, they don’t ask if it has veggies or not….

  11. ecrunner - February 23rd, 2010

    Vegetarians don’t just eat veggies.
They eat MANY other things too, I really think you need to be more educated on this.

  12. Nyx - February 23rd, 2010

Because grains, beans, and other things are still allowed in a vegetarian diet as long as there is no meat?

  13. snuggle wuggle - February 23rd, 2010

    Dah! Because everyone eats vegetables.

  14. Kim N - February 23rd, 2010

Because most of them make a bigger deal out of abstaining from meat than eating veges.

  15. wishbone - February 24th, 2010

Because meat eaters eat vegetables too?

  16. cinnamon - February 24th, 2010

Because everyone eats veggies. Omnivores too

  17. Flutter Bot - February 24th, 2010

    because everyone eats vegetables?

  18. Run4it - February 24th, 2010

It’s what sets a vegetarian apart from the rest.
